Newcastle Tap

Newcastle Tap

This new addition opens TONIGHT if you’re reading this on the 25th of August 2017.Part of the Pivovar “tap” series of pubs , Sheffield, Euston and of course York. The Newcastle tap adds another watering hole for the discerning craft beer drinker in the city centre complimenting what’s becoming a decent beer circuit alongside pubs and bars such as the Head of Steam, Free Trade, Box Social, Crown Posada, The Town Mouse Micro Pub, Brewdog and many many more. Newcastle’s craft beer and real ale scene is booming with new bars and bottle shops opening almost monthly (CentrAle & mmmm & glugg being two of such)
Bar Frontage
Once part of a car park (and it took me ages to visualise this) it’s now a industrial looking bar with an openly visible cellar sitting proud like the bridge of a battle ship perched above the bar itself.
General Bar View
There’s 24 lines to chose from offering beers from far and wide as well as offerings from the “tappd beer co” which you can see from platform 1 in Sheffield station.

From the outside it’s a large glass fronted facade on the east end of Neville Street, a stones throw from the central station.

The walls are mostly stripped back but they have an incredible feature wall made of old wooden beer barrels.
The Barrel Wall
I didn’t get the chance to try the pizza as I arrived later on in the evening but being the investigative (see nosy) soul that I am I took to social media to find out. They look absolutely superb and they’ll happily compliment any beers, I look forward to returning one evening and trying one.

The beers on offer at the time were pinned to the wall next to the relevant tap but If you swing round you’ll see there’s an untappd live beer menu on the screen above the main door, having seen this in the box social, a live beer menu updates as soon as a member of staff changes the barrel and updates the app. It’s also a bit like “just eat” for beer, whereas they don’t deliver you can check what’s on offer before you head out and subscribe to updates so you don’t miss out on the good stuff.
