Whitby

Whitby

My Sunday didn’t quite go as planned, I was meant to be going for a walk on ‘the moors’ and back just after lunchtime but due to a poor forecast and my knowledge of how quickly conditions can turn, I was told ‘plan b’ was a trip to Whitby, the home of scampi, lucky ducks oh, and Dracula.

There was one problem, we totally underestimated how busy it would be and that your ETA would be destroyed by tourist traffic and caravans! (for early March I wasn’t expecting a ghost town but it was rammed!)We managed to get parked in the marina next to the railway station and we took a walk through the Marina and Harbour and past the Lifeboat museum along to the piers, quick chippy lunch then we had to head back, by the time we did so every cafe and chippy seemed to have queues out the door, and never before have I seen (not in use today) ‘pedestrian waiting areas’ over the road for when the queues must get insane over the summer months and the tourist peak.

I have not been to Whitby for years and it hasn’t changed. It was a shame I couldn’t spend longer there today as we both had to be back early afternoon, but the one thing as mentioned before underestimated was the traffic!

Certainly want to return and go via Goathland where ‘Heartbeat’ (ITV) was filmed, simply as it was a Sunday night fixture in the house when I was growing up
